Ja Rule Recalls TVT Records Not Signing Jay Z, DMX, Snoop Dogg Or Dr. Dre

Before Ja Rule, Jay Z, and DMX embarked on their illustrious solo careers, the trio belonged to a group called the Cash Money Click.

In a new interview with VladTV, Ja reveals that CMC could’ve been signed to TeeVee Toons (TVT) Records, instead of ultimately landing at Def Jam as solo artists.

Ja tells Vlad that at the time he arrived at the label, the roster already included Mic Geronimo and Nine Inch Nails. The imprint’s CEO/founder Steve Gottlieb had already passed on Dr. Dre’s The Chronic album.

“TVT could’ve been one of the biggest labels right now,” he says within the clip. “They had the chance to sign a new up-and-coming artist named Snoop Dogg, because Dr. Dre brought The Chronic album to TVT first.”

In addition to not signing Dre and Snoop when they had the chance, TVT also neglected to see the potential in Ja’s CMC counterparts.

“When I look back on it, that label could have been humongous,” he says. “It could’ve been a big, big Rap label. He [Gottlieb] didn’t get DMX and Jay Z, he fucked over Nine inch Nails and fucked me over.”

50 Cent Discusses TIDAL Flaws

50 Cent admits that he likes the cast of “Empire,” says TIDAL launch would have been “more exciting” if he was involved.

During an interview with Los Angeles-based radio station Real 92.3, 50 Cent was asked why he wasn’t one of the artists involved in the TIDAL launch months ago.

The Queens, New York rapper didn’t reveal why he wasn’t present, but did state that the launch could have been “more exciting” had those at TIDAL reached out. He also added that since he’s now an independent artist, the possibility of having worked with TIDAL on something for their launch, was very much an option.

“Probably we could’ve did something more exciting if they reached out,” 50 Cent said. “Because the people that you saw there don’t even own the rights to their music. So, they can’t say ‘It’s just gonna come out on TIDAL.’ It has to go everywhere. So, why would you actually buy TIDAL to get something that would be everywhere else…I’m a free agent. I could have did something—made something special [for] TIDAL.”

Prior to speaking on TIDAL, 50 Cent cleared up misconceptions that he’s not a fan of the “Empire” cast. He went on to explain that despite the fact that “they did steal the idea” from “Power,” he likes the cast of the Fox television series.

“I don’t think people know that I actually like the cast of ‘Empire.’ They did steal the idea,” he said. “The talent that’s on there, I wanna see them be successful. My first film, I worked with Terrence Howard. He’s the lead of the show. I wanna see him have success. And then Taraji, she’s cool.”

Boosie Badazz Compares Life In The Prison System To “Real-Life Slavery”

Baton Rouge, Louisiana rapper Boosie Badazz shared some insight into the workings of the prison system, during a newly-published interview with Vlad TV.

When asked what he would change about the prison system, the Southern wordsmith revealed that he would change the three-strikes law. He went on to explain that there are prisoners in Louisiana who are locked up for life on minor drug charges.

Boosie then compared the experience at the prison where he served his time, the Louisiana State Penitentiary, to “real-life slavery.”

“I’d change the three-strikes law,” Boosie Badazz said. “You got over 500 prisoners in Louisiana in prison for life for the three strikes law and not violent crimes. I had dudes in there with me for three charges of marijuana, life in Louisiana. I had one dude in there, he had a minor drug charge, he had another drug charge. But his third charge was a lady was walking out the pawn shop and she dropped her necklace. He was walking in the pawn shop and picked it up. They got him on camera for stolen property and gave him life. He been in jail 21 years…I was in Angola. And these people got life sentences and still gotta go pick food, pick vegetables. It’s real-life slavery. Chained to each other. Walking 20 miles, digging ditches. After you already got life.”

Prior to speaking on the prison system, Boosie spoke on his children serving as his motivation while in prison. He added that during his time locked up, rap was last on his mind.

“My kids kept me motivated…The rap shit was last on my mind,” he said. “My mind was [on] getting back to those kids I gotta raise. Who mama need. Who need a daddy…It’s crazy. You could have all the money. I was in jail, my kids got everything for Christmas. But they was still sad cause they wanted daddy. Gifts ain’t everything when you ain’t got your daddy. You would think money buy everything, but it don’t. It ain’t buy them wanting their daddy more than $10,000 worth of gifts.”

9 dead in Waco, Texas biker brawl

(CNN) Gunfire erupted Sunday among rival biker gangs in Waco, Texas, leaving at least nine people dead, according to police.

Authorities had anticipated trouble and pre-positioned officers.

“There were at least three rival gang groups here this morning for whatever reason. As they were here, we had officers on scene. We expected issues,” said Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton, a police spokesman.

The fight broke out at Twin Peaks restaurant and spilled into the parking lot. It quickly escalated from hands and feet, as weapons, to gunfire, Swanton said.

He expressed anger at the management of Twin Peaks, which he claims has been less than helpful in dealing with gangs in the past. He declined to identify the specific groups involved in Sunday’s shooting.

“Are we frustrated? Sure. Because we feel like there may have been more that could have been done by a business to prevent this,” Swanton said.

To escape the fight, some restaurant customers and employees took cover in the freezer, according to CNN affiliate KWTX. The station reported that more than 100 weapons were recovered, and Waco police said officers were continuing to arrest people arriving with weapons.

Swanton told reporters that eight people were dead on the scene and another was pronounced dead at an area hospital. All are believed to be bikers. A total of 18 people were taken to the hospital. It was not immediately clear whether that figure included the person who died.

No officers were hurt, Swanton said, praising their response.

“Their action has saved lives in keeping this from spilling into a very busy Sunday morning,” the spokesman said. “Thank goodness the officers were here, and took the action that they needed to take to save numerous lives.”

Lil’ Kim’s Former Drug Lord Boyfriend Found Guilty Of 6 Murders; Sentenced To Life In Prison

UPDATE: Damion “World” Hardy used to live with Lil’ Kim in a New Jersey mansion.

Former drug kingpin Damion “World” Hardy was found guilty in Brooklyn Federal Court Wednesday (April 29) of orchestrating six murders, The New York Post reports.

Hardy, 40, allegedly dated Lil Kim for some time. He reportedly ran a drug ring near Kim’s original stomping grounds in the Lafayette Gardens projects in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.

During the late ’90s, he was also convicted of attempted murder, kidnapping, and drug dealing.

This case lasted more than a decade due to Hardy’s lawyers arguing that since Hardy had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, he wasn’t fit to stand trial. As the case resumed, several members of Hardy’s Cash Money Brothers’ gang reportedly testified against him and shared details of his violent actions to jurors.

Hardy faces a mandatory life sentence.

King Los On Baltimore: “No Such Thing As Controlled Chaos”

King Los speaks on “God, Money, War” album, says those in Baltimore can be angry and still be smart.

With the city of Baltimore, Maryland serving as his hometown, King Los was asked about the current events taking place in the city, during a newly-released interview with XXLMag.com. The rapper was specifically asked about recent comments he made encouraging the people of Baltimore to “be smart” with their actions.

In regards to his past comments, he explained that “controlled chaos” doesn’t exist, but later went on to explain that it is possible to be angry and hurt, and also be smart with your actions.

“When I say ‘be smart,’ you have to understand there is no such thing as controlled chaos,” King Los said. “Chaos is chaos, man. You can’t ask natural to become unnatural, the same way you can’t ask unnatural to become natural. All I can say is just be smart. Because if you’re angry, if you’re hurt, if you’re frightened, that doesn’t mean you can’t be all those things and be smart at the same time. You have to be wise. You don’t want to burn down your own neighborhood. But some people don’t like their own neighborhood. Some people hate where they’re growing up at. So people don’t value that place when they’re not valued as humans.

“It is what it is,” he added. “I just urge anybody just to be smart. Make your moves calculated and think about not just consequence but think about the results. How you should move and how you can grow. As far as people being upset, angry and hurt, that’s been a possibility for a very long time because it’s been not right for a very long time. I can’t ask those people to act unnatural or I can’t lie to them, I just can’t. It’s not fair…It’s so real, it’s so deep and I know these kids. I know these kids personally; I’m not just watching TV. The same exact area you saw the riots, that’s my hood. That’s my neighborhood. It’s just a deeper thing when you’re really from it.”

In addition to sharing his thoughts on the happenings in Baltimore, King Los did speak in detail on his new music. The wordsmith was questioned about the message on his upcoming project, God, Money, War.

“I just feel like it’s the three most essential things that affect us on a daily basis,” the rapper said while speaking on God, Money, War. “I feel like some people might put money above everything. And I feel like I need to show God is more important than all three. God is the greatest of the three. Just got to have some pre-establishment of something greater than yourself, something greater than a human being. Something to look towards outside of just life that we live, because like I said, you can get caught up in your present conditions and your environment because you’re in it so deep everyday. What do you have outside of that to call on? When you rely on another person, when no one else can help you out of your situation, what do you have then?”

South Carolina police officer charged with murder

(CNN)A South Carolina officer has been charged with murder after a video surfaced that appears to show him shooting an unarmed man who was running away.

Michael Slager, an officer with the North Charleston Police Department, was arrested Tuesday, according to a statement from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, or SLED. If found guilty of murder, he could face up to life in prison or death.

The shooting took place Saturday after a traffic stop, SLED said. Video obtained by The New York Times shows what happened.

A black man breaks away from the white officer. Something falls, and the officer fires eight shots at the man as the man runs away. The man, who appears to be unarmed, drops to the ground.

“I can tell you that as the result of that video and the bad decision made by our officer, he will be charged with murder,” North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey told reporters Tuesday. “When you’re wrong, you’re wrong.”

CNN affiliate WCIV identified the victim as 50-year-old Walter Scott. His family spoke to WCIV over the weekend, before the officer was arrested, describing Scott as a good man who was about to be married.

“All we want is the truth, and we’ll go any length to get that so that my brother can rest in peace,” Anthony Scott told the affiliate.

According to WCIV, Slager initially said through his attorney, David Aylor, that he followed the appropriate policies and procedures. Aylor later told CNN that he no longer represents the officer, and it was unclear whether Slager had obtained new representation.

“Help Bail Out Suge Knight Fund” Launched

In late March, Knight’s bail was raised to $25 million.

A Suge Knight advocate has created a campaign via GoFundMe to help bail the Death Row Records founder out of prison.

The “Help Bail Out Suge Knight Fund” was created by KJ Simpson on January 31, two days after Knight was involved in a hit-and-run that left one man dead and another injured in Compton, California.

“Suge is in Lockup for a simple misunderstanding,” the site states. “Please help put together the $202,500 to help get him out. If we fall short we will just put the money on his books. please help.”

$0 of Simpson’s $202,500 goal has been donated. Many of the comments on the campaign site include expletives towards Knight, and question the validity of the funding.

The monetary amount Simpson is asking for is based on the initial $2 million bail that was set for Knight. A person who is incarcerated can be released on bail if 10 percent of the bail amount is paid to a bail bondsman. The bail bondsman covers the rest of the payment. The bail bondsman is then responsible for making sure the accused appears at their court dates.

On February 2, three days after the “Help Bail Out Suge Knight Fund” was created, Knight’s original attorney James E. Blatt told reporters that Knight’s bail had been revoked.

In late March, Knight’s bail was raised to $25 million.

HipHopDX has reached out to Simpson to comment. At press time, he did not respond.
